Grateful Dead - China Cat Sunflower (Europe '72)

Look for a while at the China Cat sunflower,
Proud walking jingle in the midnight sun.
Copperdome bodhi drip a silver kimono,
Like a crazy quilt stargown through a dream night wind.

Crazy cat peekin' through a lace bandanna,
Like a one-eyed Cheshire, like a diamond-eye jack.
A leaf of all colors plays a golden-string fiddle,
To a double-E waterfall over my back.

Comic book colors on a violin river Cryin' Leonardo,
Words from out a silk trombone.
I rang a silent bell, beneath a shower of pearls,
In the eagle-winged palace of the Queen Chinee.

there's a lot more to life than music, and a lot of shit that causes a lot of pain and suffering for a lot of people in the world that needs attention, thought, and action, but music does provide a great soundtrack to it all!

Agree that Kreutzman is unreal, so jazzy and tasty. The whole band were playing like a virtuosa ensemble. Phil's angular bass is so tasteful, he weaves around Jerry's leads and (almost) always manages to hit the root during the changes.

mikesass...what??? i have never seen/heard/experienced phil falter once...he just possesses a musical intuition that very very few people do...we are lucky enought to be allowed to hear the by product of his musical genius and his ability to go off and just go on tangents with his bass lines yet make it mix with the melody like it was truley meant to be as dictated by a higher power...this is unreal

Garcia looks really "detached" at this concert.

Definitely, his anchoring role becomes obvious by the difficulty of drumming alongside an experimenting player like Phil.

Aside from the obvious magic of Jerry and the other guitar players, let's not forget the real glue of this song - Bill "Sommers" Kreutzmann! He has to constantly adapt the beat, otherwise all the magic would sound like a mess!
